What is included in the room, and should students bring their own bedding and pillows?

Rooms are equipped with basic furniture, but students need to bring their bedding and pillows. A UniKit is available for purchase through LSE and Sanctuary Students.

Can I pay by credit card or bank transfer for accommodation fees?

Yes, you can pay by credit card or debit card without any additional fees.

If you prefer a bank transfer, contact the accommodation team for the necessary details.

How can I join the Lily Knowles House WhatsApp group?

You can join the WhatsApp group by scanning the QR code or link provided. The group is for students joining Lily Knowles House in the 2023 academic year.

James: Head of Residential Life at LSE.

Christine: Accommodation Manager at Lily Knowles House.

What support services are available in Lily Knowles House?

The front-of-house team is available 24/7.

What electronic appliances can I use in my room?

Hair dryers are allowed.

Kettles are only allowed in studio or one-bed flats.

Cooking appliances should be used in the kitchen.

Is smoking allowed in Lily Knowles House?

No, smoking is prohibited in all buildings in the UK, including Lily Knowles House.

Is there a dishwasher in the kitchen?

No, there is no dishwasher in the kitchen.

How does laundry work in Lily Knowles House?

Laundry is app-based, and you can check for available machines through the app.

Washing costs approximately £3.80, and drying costs approximately £2.

Is there bike storage at Lily Knowles House?

Yes, there is bike storage available, and students need to bring their own bike lock.

What is the visitor and overnight guest policy at Lily Knowles House?

Students are allowed up to three daytime visitors and one overnight guest for a maximum of three nights.

Extended stays (up to 10 consecutive nights) may be permitted with prior approval.

Can students have a mini-fridge in their rooms?

No, mini-fridges are not provided in the rooms. Students can only bring a fridge for medical purposes with a doctor's note.

Are there full-length mirrors in the rooms?

Some rooms have full-length mirrors, while others do not. Students can bring their own mirrors if desired.

Is there underbed storage available in the rooms?

Yes, there is underbed storage space in the rooms, which can accommodate two large suitcases.

How often are the shared kitchens cleaned?

The shared kitchens are cleaned once per week, Monday to Friday, by the in-house team.

Students are responsible for cleaning their own bedrooms and should clean up after using the shared facilities.

What should I do if something in my room breaks?

Report any issues to reception, and they will arrange for maintenance to assess and repair the item if possible.

How can I stay up-to-date with news and events at Lily Knowles House and LSE?

Follow Residential Life on social media for updates and important information.

Is food theft an issue in the communal kitchens?

While rare, food theft may occur. The hall encourages mature behaviour among residents, and any disputes can be resolved through the hall's support team.

Is there a medical center on campus, and how can students register?

There is a medical center on campus called St. Phillips Medical Practice. Students will receive information on how to sign up for the doctor service during welcome week.

What are the nearest gyms to Lily Knowles House?

Fitness First, located about 10 seconds away, offers a student discount.

The LSE gym on campus is also popular among students.

Is the area around Lily Knowles House safe?

Yes, the Spitalfields area is generally considered safe, with 24-hour police presence and well-lit streets. However, students should remain aware of their surroundings and take common-sense safety precautions.

What are the best ways to get to campus from Lily Knowles House?

Walking: It takes about 40 minutes and offers a chance to see famous landmarks.

Buses: There are two buses to the south side and two to the north side of campus, taking about 20-30 minutes.

Underground: From the nearby train station, the Holborn Underground station is about 15 minutes away.
