Most asked questions:
Monthly, a rota is established in collaboration with the Warden and Subwardens, where shifts are allocated among the team members. It's crucial to inform your warden in advance about any upcoming holidays/plans to ensure proper coverage.
Weekday on-call shifts are from 6pm to 8am, and on weekends, a Subwarden will be on call 24 hours a day. During their on-call shifts, it is required that they remain in the building, unless alternative arrangements have been made with their Warden and fellow Subwardens.
In the event that candidates progress to the interview stage, they will have the opportunity to declare their preference of hall to the panel. However, we want to emphasise that while we strive to maintain dynamic and well-balanced teams across all halls, we cannot guarantee that candidates will always be assigned their preferred hall.
Please follow the usual accommodation booking process, as this role is not guaranteed.
If you are successful and have already booked accommodation at an LSE-managed residence (High Holborn Residence, Butler's Wharf Residence, or Robeson House), you will be released from your contract and your deposit will be returned, subject to applicable deadlines.
If you have booked with a third-party hall (Urbanest Westminster Bridge, Unite Sidney Webb House, or Sanctuary Students Lilian Knowles), please be aware that LSE is unable to facilitate a release from those contracts. You will be responsible for arranging this directly with the provider. Please keep this in mind when making your accommodation arrangements.
You are eligible to apply as an international student, the job meets the criterions to allow you to work as a Subwarden. If you are appointed you will have to present your BRP document to HR as part of your Right to Work process once you arrive in London in September.
In person Subwarden training is compulsory in order to commence the role. Subwardens are expected to move in to their halls before training.
