Being London the most expensive city in the UK, making ends meet as a student can be challenging. However, there are plenty of part-time options on campus and across the city you can look out for.
Check out your visa regulations
If you are in the UK on a student visa, you may need to follow specific rules regarding the amount and frequency of work you can undertake each week. Fortunately, this LSE webpage provides all the necessary information.
Consult LSE Careers
In addition to providing guidance on work requirements and recommendations on how much time to work, you can find job listings for part-time, full-time and internships on the LSE Careers website.
Another option is to pay them a visit in person on the Resource centre on the fifth floor of the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre.
Plan in advance
Planning is essential. You may have heard this sentence many times already, but it's important for this reason. Whether you prefer using an online calendar such as Google Calendar or a physical agenda, my advice is to write everything down from uni deadlines to work commitments to extracurricular activities so that you have a clear idea of the university workload and you don't take up too much extra work.
Consider a job on campus
There are numerous job opportunities available at LSE, including event steward, bartender, and research assistant roles. Not only does having LSE as an employer look good on your CV, but it will also save you travel time! Check out Sofia's student blog for tips on securing a job on campus.
Read your department's email and talk to your teachers
Your department will send out a monthly newsletter that sometimes contains job listings or opportunities related to your field of study. Additionally, consider speaking with your teachers; sometimes, professors look for research assistants but do not advertise the opportunity online, so discussing this with them may be the best way to find out.
