Resources & information you need to make informed decisions

At LSE, students' health and wellbeing come first. The university offers support for physical and sexual health, to make sure you have access to the resources and information you need to make informed decisions about your health.

Accessing sexual health services

You can access a range of sexual health services through the National Health Service (NHS). These services are free and confidential, including:

  • Contraception and advice: Access to various contraceptive methods and professional advice.
  • Sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing: Regular testing is encouraged, especially for those with new or multiple partners.
  • Emergency contraception: Available in case of contraceptive failure or unprotected sex.
  • Sexual health clinics: Specialised clinics offering comprehensive sexual health services.

You can find local NHS healthcare providers, including doctors, dentists, sexual health services, pharmacies, and hospitals, through the NHS website or by calling NHS 111 for advice.

Support services at LSE

In addition to NHS services, we offer internal support you can access:

  • Student wellbeing service: Provides a range of support to students, including wellbeing and counselling services, if personal circumstances are affecting wellbeing and/or academic progress.
  • Subwardens: Trained halls wellbeing teams who can offer support on how best to navigate challenges, they are all mental health and physical first aid trained
  • Peer supporters: Trained student volunteers who offer a non-judgmental and confidential listening space.
  • LSESU advice service: Offers free advice and support on a range of issues, including sexual health and wellbeing.

These services are all designed to support you in maintaining your sexual health and overall wellbeing during your time at LSE.

Understanding your rights and responsibilities

It's essential for you to understand the rights and responsibilities regarding sexual health. The NHS provides information on topics such as consent, safe sex practices, and the importance of regular health check-ups.

LSE also has a zero tolerance policy in place for sexual assault and sexual violence. You can read more about this here.

Engaging in open and honest communication with partners about sexual health is crucial for maintaining healthy relationships.
