TV in TV Lounge
Below you can find our guidelines on how to use the equipment in the TV Lounge. If you have any issues, please do contact the reception desk directly.
- Use either the remote on the far left right to turn the TV on.
- Use the remote to navigate to the Live TV widget and select this widget.
- Use the remote to change the channel as desired.
If you get an error message that says "the service is not available", change the channel. This just means the current channel is not available, not live TV as a whole.
Step 1: Connect your laptop
- Plug your laptop into the grey HDMI cable located on the right side of the TV.
- This is an HDMI to HDMI cable.
- The laptop input is HDMI 2.
Step 2: Turn on the TV
- Use either remote (the one on the far left or the far right) to turn the TV on.
Step 3: Select the correct source
- Press the Source button on the remote.
- Select Laptop icon (for laptop use) or DVD player icon (if using the DVD player instead)
Step 4: Check the sound
- Audio should play automatically through the TV speakers.
- No additional sound settings should be needed.
Option 1: Stream from a laptop or tablet
- The TV is not currently connected to Wi‑Fi.
- The easiest way to stream is to connect a Wi‑Fi‑enabled device (laptop or tablet) to the TV using the HDMI cable.
- Play your content on the device, and it will appear on the TV screen.
Option 2: Stream directly on the TV using your mobile hotspot
- Use the far‑right remote to turn the TV on.
- Press the Settings button.
- Select Wi‑Fi.
- Connect the TV to your mobile hotspot by entering your Wi‑Fi details.
- Once connected, press the Home button and navigate to the streaming app of your choice.
- Log in using your personal streaming account.
Important reminders
- Log out of your streaming account when you are finished.
- Disconnect the TV from your mobile hotspot before leaving.
You can connect to the TV by turning on your Bluetooth, connecting to [TV] 85” Crystal UHD, and following the instructions.
You can then use this to play music from the connected device through the TV speakers.
The TV is connected to the Bluetooth sound bar speaker automatically. Just use the middle remote to turn the bar on/off.
Bluetooth speakers in the Main Common Room / Bar area (weekends only)
Over the weekend, the Bluetooth‑enabled speakers in the bar area will be turned on.
To connect:
- Go near the closed bar area (see picture below).
- Turn Bluetooth on your device.
- Select the speaker named “A series” from the list of available devices.
Once connected, audio from your device will play through the speakers.
Bankside House Common Room / Bar area
The actual sound system that controls the speakers is behind the locked bar, so you will need to control the volume using the volume controls on your device. Also, because of the location of the sound system, the device will disconnect if you take it too far away from the bar area.
