Drinking water in halls

Where to find water fountains and reusable cups

Access to free drinking water is an important part of supporting wellbeing and reducing single-use plastic. Although it's advertised around halls and in the online introduction, it can still be confusing - but that's okay, we can simplify it for you.

Drinking water is available in halls, and everyone must follow the guidelines displayed on the poster.

Water at LSE

Availability of water is increasingly affected by climate change and other factors; however, our approach at LSE focuses on reducing water demand through infrastructure and system design, while maintaining easy and convenient access to drinking water (you can read the detailed outline of our sustainability approach).

  • Water fountains: There are over 70 water fountains around campus, with the majority designed for refilling water bottles and rinsing reusable hot drink cups. If you're struggling to find one, you can always ask at reception!
  • Reusable cups: A closed-loop, reusable cup system is in place for social events to replace disposable paper cups. These durable, washable cups are a part of a broader initiative where reusable containers are used, managed by the catering team.
  • LSE Shop: We sell reusable waterbottle from the shop, as well as some lovely ceramic mugs! Having the right gear is an easy step to being more responsible when it comes to water.
