Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurants to try in 2024
Many students will be firmly committed to reducing the amount of animal products they eat in 2024, either for environmental or health reasons - or both! See below for five of the most delicious plant-based eateries in London that you can try this winter.
1. Mildreds, Soho
A London institution, Mildreds has been serving delicious vegetarian and vegan fare in the heart of Soho since 1988, when exclusively vegetarian (never mind vegan) restaurants were fairly hard to find in the capital. Fast-forward 34 years(!) and the original Mildreds in Soho is going strong, but you can now also sample their incredible plant-based menu in Camden, Kings Cross, Dalston and Covent Garden.
2. Club Mexicana, Covent Garden
Searching for a hint of spice to warm up the winter blues? Look no further than Club Mexicana, where you can find Mexican-inspired plant-based morsels. Tuck into fresh soft tacos, crunchy nachos and burritos overflowing with plant-based goodness while sharing a frozen cocktail (or mocktail). You can drop into Club Mexicana at their Spitalfields and Soho branches too.
3. Rudy's Dirty Vegan Diner, Camden
Junk food is often what people crave most during veganuary, especially when the cold weather bites and comfort food beckons. If this sounds like you, Rudy's Dirty Vegan Diner is the place to go! Calling itself the world’s first all vegan butcher and diner, Rudy's specialises in mouth-watering burgers, philly cheesesteaks, hot dogs and salt'beef' sandwiches - all totally 100% plant-based! And like any good junk food eatery, it's available on Deliveroo!
4. Tofu Vegan, Angel
A very popular restaurant which celebrates China's historical and contemporary love affair with plant-based eating. Tofu Vegan emphasises authentic and flavoursome dishes, boasting specialist chefs from different regions in China (Sichuan, the Cantonese South and the Northwestern Dongbei region). You can also try Tofu Vegan in Spitalfields and Golder's Green.
5. Sagar Vegan & Vegetarian Restaurant, Covent Garden
Sagar has been serving up authentic South Indian vegan and vegetarian cuisine to satisfied customers in Covent Garden for years. Tuck into huge crispy dosas and uthappams, served with sambar and coconut chutney, or make your mouth water with a delicious Thali, a traditional South Indian platter of small bowls full of expertly rendered dishes.
Try some tasty, sustainable food - whether you're vegan or not. So why not give it a try?
