Sustainability at LSE

By Halls 15 Aug 2022

LSE’s commitment to sustainability is stronger than ever

We are a university that looks to embed sustainability throughout every part of its operations — from your course content to the research we publish and the way we run our campus. And we want to help YOU to become a sustainable leader!

Here's some recent sustainability highlights 🥳

  • In 2021 we became the first UK university to be verified Carbon Neutral and we are working towards achieving a net-zero campus by 2030 for all our direct and indirect emissions by 2050. Our next major building project, 35 Lincoln's Inn Fields,  is set to be our first net zero carbon building on campus!
  • We’ve graduated People and Planet’s ‘Green University’ League with first class honours! We were the 4th highest-ranking University in London for our sustainability work in 2022.
  • We have the longest running Green Impact programme in the world! Green Impact is a behaviour change and engagement programme for staff, where teams from across LSE sign up and work together to complete environmentally positive actions.
  • We are serious about offering the most sustainable food and catering services! Our catering teams, both in halls and on campus, are working hard to serve local, seasonal, and sustainable food. Try some of our delicious plant-based items (check out our carbon labelling system which makes it easier to pick sustainable food options!) and do your best to avoid food waste.
  • We look to embed sustainability throughout your studies at LSE and already do this is in many ways.
