London in the summer can get quite expensive. 😅
Between eating out, day trips and trying to make the most of the sunshine while it lasts, your bank account can start looking a little scary. However, let me be the one to tell you; there are plenty of things to do in London that won't cost you a penny.
Here are some of my favourite free activities to add to your summer bucket list!
Watch a movie at the canal 🍿
There is something so special about watching a film outdoors in the middle of summer. Head to Everyman on the Canal in King's Cross and grab a spot by the water for one of their free screenings. They show everything from family favourites to cult classics and even Wimbledon matches throughout the summer. Just make sure you arrive early because the best spots disappear very quickly!
Try a salsa social 💃
Summer is the perfect time to try something new and salsa socials are a great way to meet people while learning a few moves. Places like The Latin Collective (Salsa, Bachata & Reggaeton London) frequently run beginner friendly sessions and free introductory classes, so you don't need any experience beforehand. Trust me, everyone looks a little confused during their first class. 😭
Enjoy free live music 🎶
If your playlist has been feeling a little repetitive recently, check out the free summer music festivals happening around London. Events such as the Summer Sounds Festival in King's Cross bring live music and performances to the city without the need for a ticket. Bring a friend, sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere.
Cool off by the docks 🌊
When London decides to become unbearably hot for a week, head over to the Royal Docks for Summer Splash. It is a free open water lido with deckchairs, swimming areas and some pretty amazing city views. Honestly, it might be one of the best ways to survive a heatwave. 😂
A perfect outdoors summer day!
Explore a museum you have never visited before 🏛️
London has so many free museums that it is easy to forget about some of them. Why not spend an afternoon at London Museum Docklands and learn a little more about the city's history? It is free, indoors and a great backup plan for the inevitable rainy day.
The best thing about summer in London is that you don't need loads of money to enjoy it.
Grab some friends, make the most of the sunshine and try a few things that you normally wouldn't. You might just find your new favourite summer tradition!
