Things to do in your first London weeks

Posted 4 days ago

Should you do it all?

Moving to London can feel a little overwhelming. 😅

There is so much to see and so much to do and so many people everywhere that it can be hard to know where to start. However, your first few weeks in London do not need to be spent stressing about making the most of every second.

Here are some things I think everyone should do during their first weeks in the city!

Explore your local area 🚶

Before you start traveling across London, take some time to get familiar with the area around your hall. Find your nearest supermarket, coffee shop, pharmacy and takeaway spot. Trust me, future you will be very grateful when you need something urgently and already know where to go.

Visit the big London landmarks 📸

Yes, they are touristy, but there is a reason everyone wants a picture with them. Spend a day visiting places like Big Ben, Tower Bridge or Buckingham Palace. It is one of those things that is easy to put off until later but somehow later never comes.

Learn how to use public transport 🚇

The London transport system can seem a little confusing at first, but getting comfortable with it will make your life so much easier. Practice using the Tube buses and trains and do not panic if you get on the wrong one. Almost everyone has done it at least once. 😭

Attend welcome events and socials 👭

It can feel intimidating walking into a room full of strangers, but remember that everyone else is looking to make friends too. Go to hall events, society fairs and welcome activities whenever you can. You never know who you might meet.

Explore London's free attractions 🏛️

One of the best things about London is how many things you can do for free. Visit museums, walk through parks, and explore different neighborhoods around the city. You do not need to spend loads of money to have a good time here.

Try something you normally would not 🎨

Whether it is joining a society, attending a salsa class, going to a social event alone or trying a new food, your first few weeks are the perfect time to step outside your comfort zone. Everyone is figuring things out and this is probably the best opportunity you will have to try new things.

A ResLife trip!

The first few weeks in London can be exciting and a little exhausting at the same time.

Give yourself time to settle in, say yes to new experiences, and do not put too much pressure on yourself. Before you know it, London will start to feel a little more like home. ❤️
