My First Month as a Communications Intern

Posted 1 year ago

Student Internship

I’ve had the opportunity to join a brilliant team which has allowed me to develop my creativity, communication skills and teamwork!

With a background of working in social media content creation, after graduating from the LSE, I was looking for a role that would allow me to express my creativity and offer me great skills and experiences to advance my career. After looking through LSE Careers Hub, I found the perfect role for me, and that’s how I joined the ResLife team working as a Communications Intern.

Here's a look at the best parts of my job and some of my favourite experiences I’ve had whilst working with ResLife!

Creativity

One of my favourite things about my job is the opportunity it gives me to be creative. I love making and editing videos, and I'm given the freedom to come up with my own ideas for social media content and campaigns.

Planning the content calendar for the upcoming year has been especially exciting as I'm able to come up with all different kinds of ideas for every stage of the academic year.

This summer, I have been implementing these ideas through filming content, filming around lots of different London locations and with different students and staff which has been a lot of fun!

Getting involved with long-term projects

Not only does my role give me the opportunity to be creative, but it has also enabled me to develop skills that I can take forward in my career.

For example, working on long-term projects with the Comms team such as developing our analytics spreadsheet, strategy, content calendar and data visualisation report for our Halls Survey has allowed me to develop skills relating to design, excel, leadership and teamwork.

Working on an amazing team

The Residential Life team at LSE are an amazing team! And this has made my role so much more rewarding and fun.

I love the hard-working, flexible and friendly work environment. The hybrid-style of work involving working from both the office and home and visiting different parts of London and the Halls really suits me. Also, I love the social element that our team has, as we have had staff socials and also get to attend ResLife events such as visiting galleries, going on city visits and even going to the end of year boat party!

New opportunities

My role as a Communications Intern has given me loads of new experiences and great opportunities that I can take forward in my career!

Going to 2 conferences, the Youth Marketing Strategy Conference and the Halls Life conference, has given me the chance to network with other people that are also passionate about digital marketing and University life. Listening to talks about marketing to students and content creation has advanced my skills and knowledge in the field.

Also, after being a student at LSE, the opportunity to be involved in meetings with different departments has been exciting, giving me insight into how universities and big teams run which has been really valuable.
