Before you arrive at your new home, we've put together all the FAQs we've been asked by students, from things you need to know before you move in, to what it's like living in London as a student.

Before you arrive
There is a WhatsApp group for Robeson House residents to connect and get to know each other before their arrival. Students are encouraged to be respectful and supportive in the group.
Yes, you will need to bring your own pots and pans to use in the communal kitchens, which are equipped with microwaves, kettles, and toasters.
You cannot send items to Robeson House before your check-in date, as there is limited storage space in the hall, and the reception team cannot take responsibility for the items. Please ensure your items will arrive after you have checked into the hall.

Due to UK GDPR laws, roommates' information is not shared in advance. However, joining the WhatsApp group for your hall is a great way to interact with fellow students and potentially get to know your future roommates.
Long-term parking is not available on arrival day, but there is a quick drop-off option. After unloading items, cars will need to be moved and parked elsewhere due to limited spaces.

Robeson House offers 24/7 on-site support, pastoral support teams, and a whole Hall Committee team of volunteers who organize events and activities. There is also an online induction, mental health support, and access to the Hall's Live website for useful information.
The Halls Life website contains helpful information about what to pack, transportation, and mental health support.

There are no guests permitted for the first two weeks of Autumn Term. After that, you are permitted to have two guests at a time for up to three days. If you want your guests to stay longer than three days, you need permission from the accommodation team.

The single bed size at Robeson House is approximately 125cm (4’11”) Wide by 190cm (6’3”) Long.
No, refrigerators are not provided in the rooms. Students with verified medical requirements are permitted to bring their own mini fridges. All medical requirements, including the requirement to bring a mini fridge, must be declared at the time of booking.
Yes, there is a laundry room at Robeson House. Laundry services are provided by Circuit, find out more information here.
Yes, students are allowed to bring PC monitors into their rooms.
There is no curfew, but students are encouraged to respect quiet hours to consider the needs of others.
If there are any issues with your room, you can fill out an online maintenance form that will be sent to the accommodation team. They will work to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Otherwise, you can also report it directly to the reception desk.
There is bike storage in the basement of Robeson House. We would recommend using a secure bike lock to prevent theft.
Smoking, including e-cigarettes, is not allowed in any LSE halls or buildings.
Students are allowed to store kettles and cooking appliances in rooms but cannot be used due to fire safety. Please use these in the kitchen only.
Robeson House has a common room where various events and activities are organised. It offers exciting events for students to socialise and get to know each other. There's a Games room and a TV lounge area. There are also bookable study rooms, a gym, a TV and games room and a communal kitchen which is bookable.
Different room options include:
- Single ensuite room, private bathroom
- Large single ensuite room, private bathroom
- Studio, private bathroom
Living in halls
No, you cannot have or use a high-pressure cooker in the hall.
Yes, reed diffusers are allowed in the bedrooms at Robeson House. Plug in wall diffusers are not permitted.
Kitchens in flats are cleaned on a weekly basis. Other communal areas in the hall are cleaned daily. You are responsible for cleaning your own room.
Previous events included West End shows, day trips to cities like Brighton, Oxford, and Cambridge, creative activities like pottery painting and comedy shows, and walking tours around London. Similar events are planned for the upcoming year, and students will receive emails with details to book their spots.
Yes, all rooms at Robeson House are heated, and students have control over the heating in their individual rooms.
Room allocation requests are open until 1 August. Room allocation requests should be made at the time of booking. If you have already made your booking, please email your request to accommodation@lse.ac.uk who will advise.

Room moves are not permitted for the first two weeks of term. Room swap details are outlined here.
Yes, students are allowed to bring gym equipment like dumbbells into their rooms, as long as they don't cause obstructions or disturbances. If you order weights to the hall, please email reception team in advance to prevent possible injuries to staff who will have to handle the heavy parcel.
Yes, LSE has its own medical centre where students can register and access medical support. During the welcome period, there may also be additional medical support available.
Living in London
There are limited swimming pools close to Robeson House. One option is to check out the Better UK charity, which offers affordable membership with access to several facilities, including swimming pools.
Travel time to campus
- On foot: 80 mins
- By bike: 21 mins
- By public transport: 25 mins
The closest is Elephant and Castle
The area around Robeson House is reasonably safe, especially during the daytime. It is recommended to walk with someone at night and be cautious with your belongings. Central London is generally safe, but it's always best to take precautions.
