What are the best travel options from Heathrow Airport to Sidney Webb House?

Students often use Uber, taxis, or the Transport for London (TFL) network, including the tube. Citymapper is a useful app for travel planning in London.

Do I need to bring my own bedding?

Yes, you are responsible for bringing your bedding. We recommend purchasing it locally or arranging for it to be delivered before you arrive.

What appliances are provided in the kitchens, and what should we bring?

The kitchen comes with ovens, microwaves, and other basic equipment. However, kettles, irons, and toasters are not provided. Discuss with your flatmates if you plan to bring any of these items.

Can I ship items in advance to Sidney Webb House before my arrival?

While it is possible to ship items in advance, it is recommended to do so as close to your check-in date as possible, as storage space is limited.

How can I join the WhatsApp group for Sidney Webb House residents?

You can join the group by scanning the QR code or link provided in your online induction. It's a great way to get to know your future hallmates before arriving.

How can I contact the staff if I need assistance?

Staff at Sidney Webb House are available 24/7 for any support or assistance you may need. You can contact them through email, phone, or by visiting the reception desk. Feel free to approach them for anything, even if it's just for a chat.

How does the laundry service work, and what does it cost?

Sidney Webb House uses the Circuit laundry service, which can be accessed through the "Circuit Plus" app. Washing costs around £1.70 per load.

Is there a gym at Sidney Webb House?

Yes, there is a small gym available at Sidney Webb House, and it is accessible 24/7.

Are students allowed to have steam irons in their rooms?

Yes, students can have steam irons in their rooms, but it is advisable to use them in the kitchen to avoid activating the fire alarm with excess steam.

Is smoking allowed in the building or rooms?

No, smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the building, including e-cigarettes. Smoking should be done outside the building.

What is the mix between postgraduates and undergraduates at Sydney Webb House?

Approximately 55% to 60% of the residents are postgraduates, while 45% are undergraduates.

What safety measures are in place at Sidney Webb House?

Safety is taken seriously at Sidney Webb House. The building is well-lit, and there are safety protocols in place. The reception is available 24/7 to assist in case of any emergencies.

Does Sidney Webb House have air conditioning in the rooms?

No, there is no air conditioning in the rooms at Sidney Webb House. Air conditioning is rare in most UK student accommodations.

What time is the noise curfew at Sidney Webb House?

The noise curfew is at 11 p.m. After this time, residents are asked to keep noise levels low to avoid disturbances.

Can I have guests in my room?

Guests are not allowed in Sidney Webb House before 2 October 2023. After this date, you can have guests for up to three nights in a row. If you want to host guests for more than three nights, seek permission from the Warden.

Does Sidney Webb House provide bike storage facilities?

Yes, Sidney Webb House offers bike storage facilities. Ensure you have a lock for added safety.

Can I decorate my room with fairy lights or LED strips?

Yes, you can decorate your room. For safety, opt for battery-powered fairy lights or LED strips rather than plug-in lights.

What support is available in LSE halls?

Halls are staffed 24/7 for support.

There are Pastoral Support Advisors to help with settling in and academic concerns.

Every hall has a Hall Committee Team organizing events.

Complete the halls' induction, which includes consent training (compulsory).

24/7 mental health support through Spectrum.life.

What resources are available for student life at LSE?

Are we allowed to stick adhesives like Command hooks or strips onto the walls for posters?

Yes, you are allowed to use 3M branded adhesive hooks that can be easily removed without damaging the walls. Avoid drilling into the walls.

Is there a limit on hot water usage, and is it available 24/7?

There is no limit on hot water usage, and it is available whenever you need it.

Is the electricity available throughout the night?

Yes, the electricity is available throughout the night.

Will my personal devices work with the UK voltage system?

Speak to the reception team for advice on whether your personal devices will work with the UK voltage system.

 Living in London 

What are the nearest supermarkets to Sidney Webb House?

There is a Sainsbury's Local located directly opposite the hall, and a Lidl also nearby. Additionally, the London Bridge area has other supermarkets, which are around a 10-minute walk away.

Is the area around Sidney Webb House safe?

The area around Sidney Webb House is relatively safe, but always be aware of your surroundings. Avoid displaying valuable items and be cautious, especially at night.

What do I do if I feel sick or unwell at Sidney Webb House?

Register with the local GP (General Practitioner) or visit the Saint Philips Medical Center on campus. Seek medical assistance if needed.
