Knitting - it's not just for Grandmas

By EllenComms 27 Feb 2023

Over the lockdown, I picked up knitting. I've grown to love it more and more ever since.

Here are 10 reasons why I love knitting, followed by the very first tutorial I followed to knit a beanie. If you do decide to pick up knitting and make a beanie too, post a photo of your creation and tag us on Instagram @lsereslife!

  1. It's relaxing - knitting is perfect for easing into your morning, taking your mind off of things or calming down at the end of a long day.
  2. You get to have a finished product - what's more satisfying than seeing a creation of your own come to fruition?!
  3. It can help you focus - ever find yourself fiddling while watching lectures or movies? Knit instead!
  4. Less screen time - more time knitting = less time on your phone
  5. Handmade gifts - making something for someone you love is always a heartwarming gift.
  6. Endless possibilities - there are so many patterns out there and once you gain a bit more experience you can let your creativity fly with your own experiments and inventions.
  7. Visual progress tracker - you can quite literally see the progress you make when making an item and from comparing your first knits to later ones.
  8. It can be social! - knitting parties with friends are a thing!
  9. Often a way to connect to the older generations who used to knit - what's more wholesome than showing your grandma what you're knitting and having her give you a million and one tips or create something alongside you!
  10. It's slower fashion - you can make your own clothes and they will likely (hopefully!) last for a long time!

Convinced? Follow the tutorial below to learn how to knit your own beanie!
