It’s important to make the most of your time as a student at the LSE. Here are a few tips to help you start networking and meeting people in your field!
1. LSE Careers Hub
The LSE Careers Hub offers various services, from one-on-one appointments to interview and CV reviews. One thing in particular you should check out is its Career Events! Whether it's alumni panels, employer recruitment events, or professional development skills workshops, there are many opportunities to put your best foot forward in the job market and get to know employers and alumni directly.
2. Book Office/Drop-In Hours on the Student Hub
We're lucky at LSE to have access to award-winning, knowledgeable faculty who are not only experts in their fields but also invested in the success of us — the students. Whether it's with one of your current professors or a faculty member whose work interests you, book a time slot during office hours to sit and chat. I know it can be intimidating, but they were students once, too and are happy to answer any questions you may have about their courses, academic background, or work in general. You can look up the faculty member's name directly on the LSE Student Hub and book from there!
3. Connect with LSE Alumni on LinkedIn
LSE has a wide-reaching community of alumni across the world who know first-hand what it's like to be in your shoes. LinkedIn is an excellent resource for connecting with alumni who previously studied at LSE and work in your field of interest. There are also various LinkedIn LSE groups to join based on your academic background or work experience. Use the alumni community to your advantage and send off a connection request with a message briefly introducing yourself and saying that you'd be interested in chatting — who knows, maybe one day, a future LSE student will do the same to you!
4. Attend LSE Public Lectures
LSE hosts a variety of events on campus, but some that may interest those looking to network and meet professionals are public lectures. LSE public lectures discuss current events across many fields, bringing in experts to enrich and bring perspective to the conversation at hand. Not only is it a great opportunity to learn more about topics that interest you, but it is also an excellent opportunity to introduce yourself to fellow attendees and listen to panellists you may never have had a chance to. 5. Get Involved on Campus
You've probably heard this tip since welcome week, but it's because it's true: getting involved on campus is a great way to meet people. There are a ton of clubs and societies to join and participate in based on your academic and personal interests. Many clubs and societies also host events that invite special guests to speak to students, which is a great way not only to get to know LSE students but also professionals and alumni. You can find a list of LSE's clubs and societies at the link below:
Now go put yourself out there - you got this!
