Discover the high-protein and high-fibre options in halls

Healthy, balanced meals made easier to find in your catered hall.

Eating well at university shouldn't be complicated. That's why LSE Catering is making it easier to identify high-protein and high-fibre options across catered hall menus.

Quick Guide

💪 Protein target: 50g per day

🌾 Fibre target: 30g per day

Look for dishes marked High Protein or High Fibre when choosing your meal.

As part of our commitment to providing healthy, sustainable and inclusive food, you'll start seeing more information that highlights nutritious choices. Whether you're looking for a filling breakfast before lectures, a post-gym dinner, or simply trying to build balanced meals, these labels can help you make informed decisions.

What does "high in fibre" mean?

A food can be labelled high in fibre when it contains at least 6g of fibre per 100g.

Fibre is an important part of a balanced diet and plays a key role in supporting digestive health and maintaining healthy cholesterol levels. Good sources of fibre include:

  • Wholegrains
  • Beans, lentils and pulses
  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Nuts and seeds

UK guidance recommends adults aim for 30g of fibre each day.

What does "high in protein" mean?

A food can be labelled high in protein when at least 20% of its nutritional value comes from protein.

Protein helps support the growth and maintenance of muscle mass and contributes to healthy bones. Across our halls, you'll find protein-rich options from a variety of sources, including:

  • Fish and seafood
  • Meat and poultry
  • Eggs and dairy products
  • Beans, lentils and chickpeas
  • Tofu and plant-based alternatives
  • Nuts and seeds

The UK Reference Intake for adults is 50g of protein per day.

Better for you, better for the planet

Many foods that are naturally high in fibre and protein, such as pulses, wholegrains and plant-based ingredients, can also have a lower environmental impact.

By highlighting these dishes, we're supporting LSE's wider sustainability goals while giving you more choice at mealtimes.

Look out for the labels

Our aim is simple: to make it easier for you to build balanced meals, discover nutritious options, and understand what's on your plate.

The next time you're in your hall dining room, look out for our high-protein and high-fibre labels and see how small choices can make a big difference to your daily nutrition.
