Don't miss out on unforgettable moments with new friends

Living in LSE halls isn’t just about having a place to sleep. It’s about stepping into a mini world of cultures, friendships, and unforgettable moments. One of the most amazing things about life in the halls is meeting people from all over the globe. You quickly realize that your flatmates aren’t just neighbors, they could be your best friends for life! I will tell you about my experience in Butlers Wharf, but keep in mind this apply to every hall!

There’s something magical about sharing meals together, whether it’s cooking your favorite comfort food, trying dishes you’ve never even heard of before, or ordering takeout. And then there are those late night balcony conversations, the kind where time disappears as you talk about anything and find common interests. I know some people think sharing a kitchen maybe troublesome, but for me has been the perfect way to get to know my flatmates.

Celebrating each other’s cultures is another highlight. I’ve heard of students coming together to celebrate Thanksgiving, Diwali, Lunar New Year, and countless other festivals. These gatherings aren’t just about food and decorations. They’re about sharing stories, traditions, and a little piece of home. It’s also an incredible opportunity to teach others about your own culture. Suddenly, your everyday traditions become fascinating experiences for your friends. This is a picture of the delicious meals my flatmate made to celebrate Diwali :)

We’re also planning to celebrate Christmas a bit early, before most of us head home for the holidays! But you don’t need a special occasion to get together and share a meal. For example, we’ve decided that each of us will cook a traditional dish from our own country, so it’s a delicious way to celebrate our different cultures.

Here’s a picture from when my hall, Butler’s Wharf, hosted a little gathering and treated us to a bunch of delicious food, all for free! It was actually how I got to know some of my hallmates better. The common area is such a cozy spot to hang out, chat, and just relax. The second picture is pretty much the same vibe, but this time it was pizza night and it was a huge hit! There are so many events happening all the time; below there's a snapshot of October’s calendar to give you an idea.

Before you leave, I wanted to finish this entry with something that happened to me recently really reminded me of the power of this community. I was having a rough day, missing my country and my family. I went to the kitchen to make something quick to eat and ran into two of my flatmates. I told them I was feeling homesick, and they immediately offered support. They shared their own experiences, gave me advice, and reminded me that this feeling is completely normal. It made me realize I’m not going through this alone. Missing home is natural, but I also have the incredible opportunity to meet amazing people in my own home, many of whom might be feeling the same way.

Living in LSE halls turns ordinary days into extraordinary experiences. You meet people from different corners of the world, form bonds over shared meals and late night talks. It’s a place where friendships, culture, and memories come together in ways you’ll remember forever.
