Spooky Things To Do in London This Halloween

Posted 18 hours ago

For fans of true crime, history or all things creepy!

Whether you’re interested in the darker side of London’s history or simply want an exciting but frightening experience, I’ve got some recommendations for you!

From chilling tales of Victorian serial killers to ghost stories, here are four spooky experiences to add to your Halloween bucket list. Although you can visit these places all year round, this is the perfect time where they feel extra chilling! 👻

1. Jack the Ripper Tour, Whitechapel 🔍

If you’re interested in true crime, the Jack the Ripper tour will be right up your street.

In 1888, a series of murders took place that shocked Victorian London. The killer, known as Jack the Ripper, was never identified, and the case has remained the subject of fascination and speculation ever since.

Led by a guide, the tour takes you through the East End, where you’ll walk along historic streets and visit former crime scenes, piecing together clues as you explore the mystery.

What makes this tour particularly interesting is that it doesn’t just focus on the killer, but also on the women whose lives were lost and whose stories have often been overlooked.

I’d recommend booking the 7pm tour, when the streets are dark and the atmosphere feels even more eerie...

Nearest Tube station: Aldgate East

Ticket price: £22

Useful to know: Tours are available in several languages, including German, Italian, French and Japanese.

2. The Tower of London 💂‍♀️

You’ve probably heard of the Tower of London, famous for its Yeoman Warders (commonly known as Beefeaters), ravens and the Crown Jewels. But did you know it also has a reputation for being haunted?

The Tower was the site of several famous executions, including those of Anne Boleyn and Lady Jane Grey. Given its gruesome history, stories of ghosts wandering the grounds and unexplained sightings have become part of its legend.

The Tower’s evening Ghost Tour lets you explore the historic grounds. It’s a little on the pricier side, but you’ll get exclusive evening access and hear stories about one of Britain’s most haunted places from a Yeoman Warder.

Fans of British history will enjoy discovering a different side of one of London’s most iconic landmarks.

Nearest Tube station: Tower Hill

Ticket price: £49

Useful to know: The tours run from 24 October - 1 November and then on Sundays from 8 November. Check the official website for the latest dates and availability before booking.

3. The London Dungeon ⛓️

For those looking to explore London’s spooky history with a few jump scares along the way, the London Dungeon is the perfect attraction!

This immersive experience takes you through some of the darkest chapters of London’s past, with live actors, atmospheric sets and special effects bringing gruesome historical events to life. There’s also a thrilling drop ride to test your bravery!

During Halloween, look out for an experience called Curse of the Mummy. Inspired by Victorian fascination with ancient Egypt, the story follows the misfortunes surrounding a mysterious mummy associated with a series of terrible events.

The experience includes dim lighting, loud noises, strong smells and occasional jump scares, so it might not be for everyone. But if you love a fright, it could be right up your street!

Nearest Tube station: Waterloo

Ticket price: From £27

Useful to know: You will be standing and walking for much of the visit, which lasts around 75 minutes excluding queue times.

4. Highgate Cemetery 🪦

If you prefer a more peaceful experience, Highgate Cemetery, with its beautiful Gothic architecture and fascinating history, is well worth a visit.

Around 30 minutes from central London by Tube, the cemetery offers an escape from the busy city. You can wander along winding paths, admire the Victorian architecture and discover the cemetery’s history.

Notable figures buried here include philosopher Karl Marx, scientist Michael Faraday and singer George Michael, alongside many other influential people. You can easily spend a few hours exploring the graves, learning more about the people buried there and admiring the architecture.

For a more in-depth visit, why not book a guided tour to ensure you don’t miss any of the cemetery’s highlights? You’ll be able to get exclusive access to areas such as Egyptian Avenue, the Circle of Lebanon and the Terrace Catacombs.

Nearest Tube station: Archway

Ticket price: £10 entry, additional £8 for a tour

Useful to know: Different tours offer access to different areas, so check what your ticket includes before booking.
