So, a new term has begun and so has the grind. The holidays are over, the weather is still chilly ❄️, and you are thrown back into the world of lectures, seminars, projects, and deadlines 📚.
If you are feeling drained and feel like there's nothing to look forward to, you are not alone. This is common, and there is always something you can do about it!
Here are a few bite-sized practical tips to navigate this period that will leave you feeling better soon:
Reassess your Goals ✍️
____________________________________
With a new term should come a new perspective to look at the goals that you set at the beginning of the academic year. What have you achieved? What hasn't worked and needs to be changed? Take a piece of paper and begin writing. When all that you are feeling is on a piece of paper, you will start feeling less overwhelmed and more prepared for how to approach the semester.
Find a Study Routine 📖
____________________________________
A big part of attending university means studying, obviously. But different people prefer studying in different ways. Try experimenting and studying with friends or in a study group, or perhaps in a British Library for a change of scenery. Find what works for you.
Engage in Extracurricular Activities 🎭
________________________________________________________
If you are part of any societies in the LSESU, keep yourself engaged with what's happening in your society. If not, London is a very happening city and there is always something to do. A simple Google search might take you on your next adventure. Don't forget to have fun!
Rely on your Support System 📞
__________________________________________________
Meet up with your friends or call your family if you are an international student. Sometimes, just talking to a loved one and expressing yourself makes you feel recharged.
Go on a Day Trip 🏰
_______________________________
Take a day trip to Oxford or Cambridge or maybe Bath to reset. Even exploring London for a few hours will leave you feeling rejuvenated and ready to tackle your tasks!
Be Kind to Yourself 🌟
_________________________________
It is okay if you are in a slump. Giving yourself grace and accepting the situation is the first step to adequately dealing with it. Treat yourself with compassion like you would treat a friend in this situation.
What you are feeling right now is natural but also temporary. 🌈 Make sure to eat well 🥗 and take care of yourself during this time. There is light at the end of the tunnel, I promise!
Keep reminding yourself that even though you're a part of one of the best universities in the world 🌍, it is okay to take a break.
You've got this. Good luck! 🍀
