Exam period: quiet hours in halls

Posted 1 week ago

Keep quiet and carry on

The designated quiet hours are between 23:00 and 08:00.

During the exam period, it's important we take into consideration the students who are going through it. These may be your peers or just happen to be the people living next door in halls. The best way you can help is by keeping the noise at a level that does not interfere with the study, sleep or comfort of anyone around you. Here are a couple of things you can do:

  • Avoid shouting in corridors or out of windows, or having loud discussions in your bedroom or kitchen. Noise can travel further than you might expect.
  • If another resident asks you to be quiet please do as they ask – they might have an important test or deadline approaching.
  • Some halls have quiet areas or computer rooms as an alternative places to work and study. You should be conscious of your noise in or around these spaces too.
  • Watch out for televisions, speakers and instruments as they can be deceivingly loud.

Noise must be kept at a reasonable level at all times, not just when restrictions are in place at night and during exam periods. If you are disturbed by any loud noise and your requests for quiet are unsuccessful, please contact reception.
