Cooking time:

Prep: 30 mins

Cook: 15 mins

Serves: 8

Ingredients:

For the wontons

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 2 green onions, minced
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons hot sauce
  • Ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 (16-ounce) package of wonton wrappers

For the soup

  • 2 (32-ounce) cartons of chicken broth
  • 1 (1 inch) piece fresh ginger, grated
  • 5 green onions, sliced
  • 1 dash soy sauce, or to taste

Method

Welcome to the last episode of our series: Hall-Friendly Winter Recipe! Today, we would like to take you to a slightly different cuisine, something that is not often thought of as winter food - Chinese cuisine!

  1. Mix pork, green onions, egg, and hot sauce for wontons together in a bowl; season with pepper. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. Place a heaping teaspoon of pork mixture in the centre of a wonton wrapper. Moisten edges with water. Fold the bottom point to the top point, creating a triangle, and pinch to seal. Fold the outer 2 points in toward the centre, pinching them together. Repeat to form the remaining wontons.
  3. Pour chicken broth into a pot and bring to a rolling boil. Add grated ginger. Add wontons and cook until they float to the surface, indicating they are ready for about 6 minutes.
  4. Serve, garnished with green onions and soy sauce.
