That warm fuzzy feeling after slurping a spoonful of piping hot wonton soup will never disappoint you!
Cooking time:
Prep: 30 mins
Cook: 15 mins
Serves: 8
Ingredients:
For the wontons
- 1 pound ground pork
- 2 green onions, minced
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 2 teaspoons hot sauce
- Ground black pepper to taste
- 1 (16-ounce) package of wonton wrappers
For the soup
- 2 (32-ounce) cartons of chicken broth
- 1 (1 inch) piece fresh ginger, grated
- 5 green onions, sliced
- 1 dash soy sauce, or to taste
Method
Welcome to the last episode of our series: Hall-Friendly Winter Recipe! Today, we would like to take you to a slightly different cuisine, something that is not often thought of as winter food - Chinese cuisine!
- Mix pork, green onions, egg, and hot sauce for wontons together in a bowl; season with pepper. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Place a heaping teaspoon of pork mixture in the centre of a wonton wrapper. Moisten edges with water. Fold the bottom point to the top point, creating a triangle, and pinch to seal. Fold the outer 2 points in toward the centre, pinching them together. Repeat to form the remaining wontons.
- Pour chicken broth into a pot and bring to a rolling boil. Add grated ginger. Add wontons and cook until they float to the surface, indicating they are ready for about 6 minutes.
- Serve, garnished with green onions and soy sauce.
