Staying far away from home can have its impacts. Missing loved one's birthday's or not being able to celebrate festivals with them can make you feel very lonely. However, LSE's Halls are the pillar of support and the new home away from home during these times.
My first Diwali away from home was at LSE. I initially thought that I was going to be very sad and lonely. Boy was I wrong. Here are a couple of things that I did during my Diwali that one can do in the Halls.
Diwali Party organised by your Hall's Committee
- The Halls Committee will always arrange a gathering around special occasions. Diwali is also one of these occasions. Here you will meet not just fellow Indians who will be there with you celebrating, but also every other LSE student and friends coming together to celebrate this joyous occasion. Dressed up in ethnic wear and with lots of food and drinks on the house, this Diwali party will make you feel right at home.
Helping with Diwali Decor
- Diwali is when one can contribute to various group activities and make good relationships along the way. As one would at home, Halls also does a lot of decor during Diwali. From hanging lights to creating rangolis, LSE Halls do it all. Volunteering and signing up are always welcome, so you can enjoy the festivities with the same feeling as home.
Cooking with Friends/Organising Potlucks
- Diwali calls for some great food! For all the cooking enthusiasts, one of the best ways to enjoy your Diwali would be to organise a potluck with your friends! This reduces the burden of cooking alone and makes you feel that you are around your loved ones. Besides, good food never hurt anyone!
While these are things that made my Diwali special, there can be multiple ways to celebrate Diwali. The important thing is to do what makes you feel comfortable and have fun along the way!
