The wellbeing and safety of all students at LSE is of utmost importance to us. Having a clear understanding of sexual consent is essential to creating a safe environment for everyone.
Consent.Ed is our very own educational programme designed to explore issues around consent, and provides an opportunity for us to discuss how we can look out for one another and create a respectful and inclusive campus.
We all benefit from learning more about what it means to seek and give consent, as well as how to safely intervene when a situation isn’t quite right. The sessions will empower you to become an active bystander and make positive decisions about your own relationships and interactions with others.
What do you need to do?
It’s expected of you and everyone in the LSE community to take part in Consent.Ed and all students are expected to complete the online course before they come to university.
After completing the online course, first year undergraduates, General Course students and students involved with clubs and societies are expected to attend an in-person Consent.Ed session.
You can book your in-person sessions here. All sessions are free but you need to secure your place by adding a ticket to your basket and checking out.
Although these sessions are primarily aimed at the students above, all students are welcome to our sessions.
The sessions are led by LSE students who are trained to facilitate discussion in a safe and caring environment. They will take place on campus and in LSE halls of residence in the first weeks of term.
Why should you attend consent training?
As the students of LSE, we are a big part of the culture at our university. Together we want to build a positive, respectful consent culture.
Consent.Ed is a requirement for some opportunities at LSE. This includes being a leader of a student society/club and attending certain LSE Students’ Union events, unless you have an exemption.
You do not have to participate in this course should you feel unable to do so and you can opt out altogether here. We encourage anyone concerned about the content or attending Consent.Ed to email us, or if you have any questions at all, please reach out to su.info@lse.ac.uk.
Survivor only workshops
This year, we will be offering survivor workshops led by Not The Only One, in collaboration with the SU. These workshops are for students who may find attending the consent workshops difficult. They are open to anyone who has suffered sexual violence at any point in their life.
The workshops provide a space to learn about and discuss consent in a trauma-informed manner together with other survivors. Each workshop is a survivor only space run in a small group and facilitated by two members of Not The Only One. They will not ask you to discuss your experience(s).
All genders and sexualities are welcome. Book a survivor-only workshop here.
