Where to Park on Move In Day

Your Guide to Parking and Driving to LSE Halls

Parking in central London is incredibly limited and highly restricted, so we strongly recommend using public transport to travel to your hall on move-in day if you can. However, if bringing a car is your only option to transport your belongings, planning ahead is vital.

🚨Driving Zones and Compliance Fees

Before loading up the car, you must check which central London driving zones you will cross. Missing a payment can result in a heavy penalty charge.

  • ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone): All LSE Halls are located inside London's ULEZ zone. If your vehicle doesn't meet strict emissions standards, you will face a daily charge. You must check your vehicle's compliance in advance.
  • The London Congestion Charge: Most halls situated in the absolute heart of the city sit within the Congestion Charge zone. This is a daily fee for driving in the zone during peak hours. Find out if your route is affected and pay via the TfL Congestion Charge Portal.

🚗How to Find Local Parking

None of our halls has dedicated student parking spaces on-site. To find nearby street parking or garages, we recommend using these tools before you set off:

  • Parkopedia - Perfect for viewing real-time maps of local parking garages, hours and pricing.
  • JustPark - Allows you to pre-book private parking spaces or driveways close to your residence.
  • RingGo - The standard app used across London to pay for on-street council parking bays via your phone.

🏠Your Hall

Located in the absolute heart of the West End, High Holborn has zero on-site parking and is under strict loading restrictions.

  • Move-In Rule: You may pull up outside briefly ONLY to unload your bags if you have pre-booked an arrival slot. The driver must stay in the vehicle at all times to avoid a traffic fine.

  • Where to Park: Once unloaded, the driver must immediately move the car to a local car park - use Parkopedia to locate nearby multi-storey options around the area.

Located on the South Bank, these halls are surrounded by historic streets.

  • Where to Park: Street parking is strictly managed by the local councils. Look for nearby car parks or use JustPark to find a spot within walking distance.

Based around Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury, these traditional halls sit on busy residential streets.

  • Where to Park: On-street pay-and-display bays are available but usually limited to a maximum stay of 2 to 4 hours. Use the RingGO app to secure street spots if available.

Located in Islington, loading space directly outside the building is highly restricted.

  • Where to Park: You will need to seek off-street parking lots or pre-booked spaces nearby via parking apps before attempting to unload.

🤝 We Are Ready to Help!

Don't panic! Once you arrive at your residence, staff and student helpers will be on hand at the halls to support you throughout move-in days. They can help guide you to unloading areas, manage the flow of traffic, and point you towards the nearest long-stay car parks after your vehicle is empty.

To make your arrival as seamless as possible, ensure you complete your online induction and book your specific arrival slot via your accommodation account before setting off.
