Your Guide to the Bankside House Kitchens

Living at Bankside House means you’re never far from a place to cook, eat, and catch up with friends. Each floor has four shared kitchens (with two on the ground floor), and each one is shared by around 25 students. Your blue fob gives you access to your assigned kitchen on your floor, so keep it handy!

Every kitchen

Every kitchen is equipped with the essentials: a fridge, hob, microwave, kettle, and toaster, all free to use whenever you need them. You’re welcome to store food and cooking utensils in the kitchen - just remember this is at your own risk, as the space is shared.

The Bankside housekeeping team cleans the kitchens daily around noon, but it’s up to residents to keep things tidy in between.

Cleaning tips

A few small habits make a big difference:

  • Wipe up spills as you cook
  • Put food waste in the bin, not the sink (to avoid blockages!)
  • Wash your dishes soon after eating
  • Report any maintenance issues to reception

For everyone’s safety, keep the kitchen door closed while cooking. If something burns, switch on the extract fan - please don’t prop the door open, as this could set off the fire alarm.
