Activities to try when flying solo in London

If you’re looking for fun things to do on your own, here are some fun, creative, and delicious activities to try during break (or honestly, anytime).

1. Pottery Painting

If you’ve ever wanted to unleash your inner artist, Pottery Café is the perfect spot. Pick out anything from a mug to a bowl to a plate, grab some paints, and create your own masterpiece (no experience needed). Sip on tea or coffee while you paint, and once you're done, the staff will glaze and fire your piece for you. Prices depend on the item you choose (from £11 to £120) plus a £7.95 studio fee per person. In the end, you walk away with a little reminder of your London adventures.

2. Baking Workshops

Ever seen those unbelievably good-looking doughnuts at Borough Market? Well, Bread Ahead doesn’t just sell them, they teach you how to make them too. They offer tons of full-day and half-day workshops: doughnuts, sourdough starters, croissants, pizza, pastries, you name it. It’s the perfect cozy activity for a cold winter day, and you get to take home whatever delicious creation you make. Full-day classes are £220 while half-day courses are £110.

3. Only-Girls Hangouts

For the girlies: Girls in the Big City is a London-based community that hosts all kinds of fun social events: pottery, beading workshops, yoga sessions, running clubs, wine tastings, bingo nights, coffee mornings, etc. Events are super affordable (ranging from £4 to £26), and the vibes? Immaculate. It’s a great way to make friends, try something new, or just get out of the house.

4. Find-the-Best Tour

Whenever I’ve got no plans and want to wander the city, I create my own little “find-the-best” tour. Just pick something you love (Italian food, cookies, croissants, books, anything) and look up the best spots in London. Then visit them all and decide which one truly wins the crown. It’s a great excuse to explore new areas of the city while doing something you already enjoy.

5. Glass Flower Making

SONG Art & Craft is a super cute London studio where you can learn how to melt glass and shape it into delicate glass flowers. They give you an apron, safety glasses, and a friendly instructor to guide you through the whole process (no experience required). Prices range from £72 to £144, and you’ll walk away with something magical and handmade.

Yes, we all have summatives or exams waiting for us, but it’s so important to take time off, relax, and enjoy the fun side of London. You deserve it.
