How to eat well without breaking the bank

Being a student at LSE is an exciting and rewarding experience. You get to study in one of the world's leading social science institutions, surrounded by a diverse and vibrant community of scholars, activists, and leaders. You also get to enjoy the perks of living in one of the most cosmopolitan and cultural cities in the world, with endless opportunities for entertainment, exploration, and enrichment.

But there is one challenge that every LSE student faces: how to eat well on a budget. London is not a cheap place to live, and food can be one of the biggest expenses for students. Especially if you are vegan or vegetarian, finding affordable and satisfying meals can be a daunting task. You don't want to spend £5 on half a sandwich at Pret, or settle for bland and boring salads every day. You want to nourish your body and soul with delicious and nutritious food that reflects your values and tastes. Luckily, there are some hidden gems around the LSE campus that offer great vegan and vegetarian options at reasonable prices. Here are some of the best places to check out when you are hungry and in a hurry.

The Shaw Cafe

This is a plant-based cafe located on the ground floor of the Sir Arthur Lewis Building. It serves vegetarian and vegan food. You can try their organic vegan soups with artisan breads, their colourful salad bowls with crunchy vegetables and zesty dressings, or their ethically sourced coffee and your choice of oat, almond, coconut and soya milk. They also have vegan cakes and chia fruit puddings for a sweet treat.

They set up a stall outside the LSE Library every weekday from 12pm to 2pm, and offer a plate of rice, dal, curry, salad, and halva to anyone who wants it. Hare Krishna is a great way to fill your stomach and your spirit with some positive vibes.
