Join us on a magical Edinburgh Christmas escape!  Visit the Christmas markets and museums, explore iconic sites, shopping and nightlife!

Edinburgh is world-renowned for its enchanting Christmas atmosphere, and this special ResLife trip is offering so much more than just markets. During our time in Edinburgh, you will have the chance to visit the city's many museums, enjoy guided walking tours of the Old Town to learn about the city's history, experience delicious local cuisine, explore the birthplace of Harry Potter, and immerse yourself in Edinburgh's vibrant nightlife.

  • It is mandatory to bring your LSE ID, as it will be checked against your ticket
  • Tickets are non-transferable and only for use by the named person on the ticket
  • Refund requests made on the day of the event will NOT be given

Brief overview

Meet us at London King's Cross Station (next to the giant Christmas tree) on Friday, 4 December 2026 at 5:00am. We will head to the platform and board the train once everyone has checked in with the Residential Life Officers, who will be with you throughout the trip.

Our arrival in Edinburgh is expected at approximately 11:00am.

We will be staying at St Christopher's Edinburgh, a conveniently located hostel in Edinburgh's Old Town. Beds will be assigned in 4-bed and 6-bed hostel rooms with shared bathrooms.

After check-in at the hostel, you will have free time to explore.

Meet at at the hostel reception at 6:30pm for your first Guided Walking Tour - a lantern-lit ghost walk through Edinburgh's Old Town, with delicious shortbread cookies along the way (included in your ticket). After the Guided Walking Tour, we will head to a Christmas market, or you have a free night to explore the city.

Meet us at Burns Monument on Saturday, 5 December 2026 at 10:00am for the optional Highland Tour (if you would are interested in joining this mini excursion, please select the add-on option on Eventbrite to add Highland Tour to your ticket).

Alternatively, your ResLife Officers will share options for things to do during your free day in Edinburgh.

Meet us at the hostel reception at 8:00pm for a Guided Festive Walk - learn about traditional Hogmanay stories and Scottish Christmas traditions, with delicious mince pies along the way (included in your ticket). After the Guided Walk, we will head to a Christmas market, or you have a free night to explore the city.

Meet us at the hostel reception on Sunday, 6 December 2026 at 10:00am for a Guided Walking Tour of Old Town (included in your ticket). You will then have free time to make the most of the city at your own pace, to do some last minute shopping and exploring.

Meet us back at the hostel at 5:00pm to pick up your luggage, check-out and head to the station for our return journey to London.

Our arrival in London King's Cross Station is expected at approximately 10:45pm.

Good to know

Make sure you pack warm clothes (including a winter coat and/or water-resistant outerwear) and sensible footwear as there is lots to see, do and explore in the Scottish winter weather.

Please make sure you plan your commute to and from London King's Cross Station (meeting location) so that you are on time for our departure via train (included in your ticket).

You will need to bring spending money to cover additional meals outside of breakfast and your own personal expenses while in Edinburgh.

LSE ResLife events are ONLY for 2026/27 Halls Residents

  • Tickets are non-transferable and only for use by the named person on the ticket. 
  • LSE ID matching your ticket will need to be shown at the start of the event.
  • Ticket sales end 14 days prior to the start of the event

The London School of Economics reserves the right to modify or cancel any event due to unforeseen circumstances.


Please note the following refund conditions: 

  • This event is non-refundable and non-transferable. If you cannot attend an event, please cancel your booking and request a refund.
  • Refund requests will require evidence and will be considered on case-by-case basis.
  • Refund requests after this will be subject to a fee (per Eventbrite's policy).
  • No refunds will be given to requests made after 20 November 2026.
  • Refunds will be processed within 7 working days and may be subject to a booking/cancellation fee.

If you don't want to be featured, please inform a member of the Residential Life team present at the event.
