Moving into Sidney Webb House at the start of my second year felt very different to moving to London in my first year. By then, I already knew my way around the city, had settled into university life and knew what I wanted from student accommodation. Looking back, I am really glad that I made the move. If you're going to be living at Sidney Webb House, here are a few things that I found made the experience even better.

Make use of the location

One of my favourite things about Sidney Webb House is its location. There are plenty of supermarkets, cafés and restaurants within walking distance, and getting to campus is very straightforward. Having everything you need close by makes everyday life much easier, especially during busy weeks when you have lectures, deadlines and society events all happening at once.

At the same time, you're still close enough to central London that exploring the city doesn't feel like a big trip. I found myself making much better use of weekends simply because everything was so accessible.

Get to know the people around you

It can sometimes feel like everyone already has their friendship groups by second year, but that definitely wasn't my experience. Sidney Webb House gave me the chance to meet people from different courses and different year groups that I probably would not have met otherwise.

Whether it was chatting in the kitchen, studying together or simply saying hello when passing each other in the corridor, those small interactions quickly made the accommodation feel much more welcoming.

Create a routine that works for you

Second year can become much busier than first year. Between coursework, applications, part-time jobs and everything else that comes with university life, having a routine made a huge difference for me.

Living at Sidney Webb House gave me a space where I could properly separate studying from everything else. Finding a routine that worked for me helped me stay organised without feeling overwhelmed during the year.

Don't spend all your time in your room

As tempting as it can be during busy periods, try not to make your room the only place you spend your time. Go for a walk, explore the local area, meet friends for coffee or simply take a break from studying every now and then. There is a great cafe 1 minute from Sidney Webb House, so definitely sit there and spend time! University becomes much more enjoyable when you allow yourself to experience life outside of lectures and assignments.

Enjoy your time there

Before moving into Sidney Webb House, I mostly thought of it as somewhere to live while studying at LSE. Looking back now, I realise it became much more than that. It was where I continued building my independence, met new people and made memories that will stay with me long after university.

If you're moving into Sidney Webb House this year, my biggest piece of advice is simply to make the most of it.
