After spending almost every day together for the past few years, it can be hard to realise you won't see your uni friends as much as you did. But moving home doesn't mean you can't keep the friendship strong.
Here are a few things you can do to stay connected to each other:
Start with the little connections
Some people might rush in to keep in contact as if you were still living together, but realistically, that might not work. People might be starting new jobs, or maybe they're busy spending time with family after living away for so long, so sometimes it's best to start small:
- Share content: Send Instagram reels, TikToks or funny memes to each other. A short, funny video can make you both laugh, which could be what you both need when you miss each other.
- Make playlists: Create a Spotify playlist together of songs you love or that remind you of each other. You can also create a Blend on Spotify and see what you have both been listening to recently!
- Short voice notes: If you're used to randomly brain-dumping on each other, try sending voice notes either when you're getting your morning coffee, whilst getting ready or winding down for the day. It's a good way to keep up to date with each other, but in a low-pressure way.
Make new traditions
If you've both moved back home and your towns are far apart, then you could try to make some new virtual traditions.
👭 Body-double each other 👬
If you used to clean or do life admin together, then FaceTime each other when you're doing some tasks around the house. Not only is it an excuse to spend time with each other, but you're also more productive.
🥘 Virtual Cooking 🥘
Have a night filled with food over FaceTime. Either cook the same recipe as each other or your favourite comfort meals and have a catch-up. You could even have the same playlist on in the background and turn the cooking into a dance party!
🎮 Gaming night 🎮
Join a Discord together and play your favourite games, or even try some new ones, start a competition and have a laugh with each other.
Reminders of living together
Even though you might not see them every day when you finish university, you can still do small things to remind you of your university experience and fun memories.
Display Photos: Make a uni photo board
Go through all your photos throughout your time at university and collect all your favourite memories. Print them (you can use services like FreePrints if you don't have a printer) and start making your collage. You can display this in your bedroom, above your desk, or anywhere you like, really. That way, you can see it and be reminded of the fun every day.
Always remember that there are ways you can keep connected and make time for each other even if you're living miles apart. Moving home doesn't mean 'that's it', it just means a start of a new chapter ❤️
