Women's History Month is a time to honour the remarkable contributions women have made to history and society. Below, I've curated a list of movies and TV series made in the 21st century featuring strong female leads:

🎞️ Movies

This action-packed romantic comedy celebrates the idea that women are capable of anything. The protagonist, Gracie Hart, is not just an FBI agent but also a pageant queen. Her multifaceted character, balancing both feminine and tomboyish traits, makes her relatable and enjoyable to watch.

"Legally Blonde" is a cult classic romantic comedy beloved by many. Elle Woods, the main character, defies stereotypes as she excels at Harvard Law School while staying true to her unique personality.

If you're a fan of history, space exploration, and true stories, "Hidden Figures" is a must-watch. The film's captivating narrative is both emotionally charged and educational, shedding light on gender and racial discrimination in 1960s America. The three central characters possess endearing personalities, compelling the audience to cheer for them as they navigate through challenges and triumphs.

Whether you're a fan of Marvel or DC, "Wonder Woman" stands out as one of the most notable female superhero films to date. Directed by Patty Jenkins, the film offers a refreshing perspective by emphasising Wonder Woman's compassion and humanity, qualities often overlooked in the genre. "Wonder Woman" not only delivers thrilling action but also sets a new standard for inclusivity in the superhero genre. There's also a sequel to this movie, and unlike most other movies, this sequel is actually decently good.

"Ocean's 8" is a crime comedy film featuring a thrilling heist that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. Despite the fact that all the female main cast members are criminals, viewers find themselves rooting for them thanks to their charismatic personalities.

Delving into the true story of workplace harassment at Fox News, "Bombshell" features three compelling female leads who challenge the culture of harassment at the network. Portrayals of real-life figures Gretchen Carlson and Megyn Kelly add depth to the narrative, highlighting their bravery in speaking out against injustice.

Note: While "Bombshell" is partially fictionalised, those interested in firsthand accounts from the women at Fox News can watch their discussions on YouTube. Megyn Kelly Presents: A Response to "Bombshell": Full Discussion.

"Barbie" stands out as a recent box office success with its stellar soundtrack and refreshing take on the iconic doll. Directed and produced by Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, this film is nostalgic and a cultural phenomenon.

📺 TV Shows

For fans of crime TV shows based on real-life events, "Inventing Anna," "The Dropout," and "Griselda" offer captivating viewing experiences. While the main characters may not be role models, their stories highlight traits such as entrepreneurship, leadership, and ambition. These series are binge-worthy and entertaining.
