Getting from your halls to LSE

Living in halls is a fantastic way to immerse yourself into city life, especially as all our halls are scattered around the centre of the Capital. 

As you might expect from a capital city, London has an extensive public transport network, so you should never be stuck waiting to get from A to B for more than a few minutes. 

To save you time, we've made a handy list of how you can get to the university campus from the 15 halls here at LSE. Find your halls and write the directions into the notes app on your phone so you're never lost! 

High Holborn Residence



High Holborn Residence is the closest halls to the LSE campus at 0.5km. 

Quickest route - on foot (11 mins): It should only take around ten minutes to walk from your halls to campus. Turn right out of your halls and right again down Drury Lane. Follow the road to the bottom and then turn left onto Aldwych. The campus will be on your left. 

International Hall



International Hall is an intercollegiate halls of residence located in Bloomsbury. It's 1km from the campus.

Quickest route - tube (14 mins): From your halls, walk five minutes to Russell Square tube station. Then take the Piccadilly line westbound to Holborn (one stop). From Holborn station walk down Kingsway, then turn left onto Portugal Street. 

For those fitness-conscious folk among you, it'd take around 18 minutes to walk from your halls to the campus. 

College Hall



College Hall is a just a short walk away from The British Museum, and like International Hall is an intercollegiate halls. It's 1.2km from campus.

Quickest route - tube (17 mins): From College Hall you have to walk through the University of London campus to Russell Square. Walk down here to Bernard Street until you reach Russell Square tube station. Then take the Piccadilly line westbound to Holborn (one stop). From Holborn station walk down Kingsway, then turn left onto Portugal Street. 

Connaught Hall



A short walk away from Euston station is another intercollegiate halls, Connaught Hall. This halls is 1.3km from the campus. 

Quickest route - bus (14 mins): Take a left from your halls to Tavistock Square, bus stop N. Here, jump on the 91 bus towards Charing Cross and get off at Kingsway/Holborn. Walk down Kingsway, then turn left onto Portugal Street and the campus will be on your left. You can also take the 168 bus towards Old Kent Road too, exiting at the same stop. 

Bankside House



Bankside House is located south of the river in Southwark, 1.5km from the campus. 

Quickest route - bus (24 mins): As you leave your halls turn left onto Sumner Street and then again onto Canvey Street. At the bottom of the street turn left again onto Southwark Street and head to Lavington Street, bus stop SQ. From here, hop on board a 381 bus to Waterloo and stay on the bus for four stops until you reach Waterloo Road (stop L). Walk a few minutes to Waterloo Station, Tenison Way, stop K. Get the number 1 bus towards Tottenham Court Road for three stops to Aldwych Kingsway, stop F.  Walk two minutes and you're there! 

Passfield Hall



Passfield Hall is located in Bloomsbury, close to Connaught Hall and is around 1.5km from campus.

Quickest route - bus (15 mins): Take a left and then a right from your halls to Tavistock Square, bus stop N. Here, jump on the 91 bus towards Charing Cross and get off at Kingsway/Holborn. Walk down Kingsway, then turn left onto Portugal Street and the campus will be on your left. You can also take the 168 bus towards Old Kent Road too, exiting at the same stop. 

urbanest Westminster Bridge



Across the river from Big Ben, and just 1.5km from campus is urbanest Westminster Bridge. 

Quickest route - bus (16 mins): Exit your halls and turn right around the roundabout to York Road. Walk along York Road until you reach Waterloo Station, Tenison Way, stop K. Get the number 1 or 168 bus for three stops to Aldwych Kingsway, stop F.  Then it's just a two-minute walk. You can also get the 26, 243, or 59 buses.

Carr-Saunders Hall



Nestled in Fitzrovia and a stone's throw from Regents Park is Carr-Saunders Hall. This residence is 1.6km from the campus. 

Quickest route - tube (24 mins): Take a right from your halls down Fitzroy Street and turn left onto Howland Street. Follow this road until you get to Tottenham Court Road. Turn right on Tottenham Court Road and make your way to Goodge Street tube station. Take the Northern line train southbound for three stops to Charing Cross.  From here walk down the strand until you get to Aldwych and follow the road for a couple of minutes and the campus is on your left. 

Rosebery Hall



Roseberry Hall is situated in the Clerkenwell area of London and is 1.6km away from the campus.

Quickest route - bus (16 mins): Take a left as you leave the halls and walk about a minute to Finsbury Town Hall, stop UD. Get on either the 19 or 38 bus to Bloomsbury Square, stop B. Walk down Sicilian Avenue which leads onto Southampton Row and then Kingsway. Keep walking down Kingsway and turn left on Portugal Street and the campus is on your right. 

The Garden Halls



A few minutes away from King's Cross Station is The Garden Halls, which is 1.6km away from the university.

Quickest route - tube (15 mins): As you leave your halls turn left to Marchmont Street and continue to Russell Square tube station. Then take the Piccadilly line westbound to Holborn (one stop). From Holborn station walk down Kingsway and take a left onto Portugal Street, you'll see the university on your right. 

urbanest King's Cross



A little further away from campus is urbanest King's Cross, 2.8km from the university. 

Quickest route - tube (24 mins): Make your way to King's Cross Station from your halls by crossing the road and walking down Tapper Walk, and follow the road onto Stable Street, Granary Square and King's Boulevard. Get a tube on the Piccadilly line southbound to Holborn. From here, walk down Kingsway and take a left when you see Portugal Street and the uni's right there! 

Sidney Webb House



Sidney Webb House is located close to the famous Borough Market, and was refurbished just a few years ago. The halls are 2.8km from the campus. 

Quickest route - bus (24 mins): Turn left onto Great Dover Street and then right onto Bartholomew Street. Cross the road and you'll see the Bricklayers Arms/New Kent Road, stop BS. Take the 172 bus to Aldwych, which is nine stops away. The campus is just a two-minute walk from the stop, on your left. 

Lillian Knowles House



Just five minutes away from Liverpool Street Station and 2.9km from campus is Lillian Knowles House. 

Quickest route - tube (23 mins): From the halls, turn right and right again onto Artillery Lane. Follow this road until it meets Bishopsgate, and across the road is Liverpool Street. Hop on a Central line tube westbound for four stops to Holborn. From here, walk down Kingsway and then turn left on Portugal Street. 

Nutford House



Another of the intercollegiate halls is Nutford House, which is based in Marylebone, 3.1km from campus. 

Quickest route - tube (23 mins): As you exit your halls turn right on Brown Street, and then left onto George Street. Follow the road and turn right on Great Cumberland Street and walk down this street until the bottom where you'll see Marble Arch tube station. Take the Central line eastbound to Holborn, which is four stops. From here, walk down Kingsway for a few minutes, then turn left on Portugal Street and you'll have reached your destination! 

Butler's Wharf Residence



Butler's Wharf is located on the south side of the river, close to Tower Bridge. This is the furthest halls from the campus at 3.2km, but you can still commute from here in just over half an hour. 

Quickest route - bus and tube (33 mins): Turn right as you leave your halls on Gainsford Street, then left on Lafone Street, right onto Queen Elizabeth Street and right again onto Tower Bridge in quick succession. Go to Tower Bridge City Hall, stop L. Take the 42 bus for three minutes to Tower Gateway, Stop TD. From here, take a left and then a right to Tower Hill tube station and get on the District line westbound to Temple station (five stops).  Across the road is Arundel Street, walk up here until you reach Strand. You'll see the university over the road on the left. 

You can skip out the bus section of this if you'd prefer to walk - it shouldn't take too much longer! 

Now you know how to get to campus from your halls you have no excuse to be late for your lectures!
